Founded in 1970, the Singapore-China Business Association (SCBA) has around 500 corporate members. Over the years, it has been heavily involved in various trading activities between Singapore and China.
The scope of SCBA is wide, having grown beyond the traditional merchandise trade. Since the opening up and reform of China, and as the Singapore-China bilateral ties strengthen, the economy and trade relations have become increasingly developed. As such, more and more Singaporean business enterprises have engaged China, such as in the manufacturing and transportation industries, the services industry (encompassing travel, legal services, financial and enterprise management), and real estate and infrastructure developments. With these business enterprises having joined SCBA, the significance of the Association is further strengthened.
Our Association has always maintained close contact with the various governmental departments and business associations in both China and Singapore. We have received many Chinese visitors, such as delegates of the Chinese government, business mission groups, investment negotiation groups; we also sponsor exhibitions and business conferences, as well as organise delegation visits to China to meet with the central government and local authorities at various levels, and build up strong relations with China's economic and trade organisations. In addition, we also organise exhibitions, seminars, and online forums to provide many opportunities for our members to discuss and exchange ideas. We also provide various services promoting the growth of our members in an innovative and flexible manner. Whenever our members encounter difficulties that are broader in nature, we will seek to gain a deeper understanding of the problem, and set out to negotiate and discuss potential solutions, riding on our influence and organizational strength to clinch the benefits our members deserve. This has won us widespread support and high praise from our members.
Over the past 40 years, under the leadership of various councils, and with the strong support and cooperation from our members, our Association has constantly sought renewal, improvements and adjustments of our business policies. We have achieved encouraging results, and contributed greatly to the enhanced understanding and friendship between the people of both countries, on top of boosting Singapore and China's economy.
As we enter the 21st century, a highly competitive and challenging era, we are faced with a global economic exchange of funds, talents, technologies, information. As a non-profit organisation, the SCBA will strive to pool together our resources and seize opportunities, working hard to develop our organisation, continuing our mission in promoting bilateral economic growth and cultural exchanges. We seek to become even more significant and influential, providing greater and better services for our members.
